WELLSBURG - The Wellsburg Applefest Committee carried on its tradition of dedicating each year's festival to a strong supporter of the event with its recognition of Bill Konkle.

Konkle has coordinated the festival's Apple Pie Bake-off, which in recent years was re-dubbed the Everything Apple Contest to allow a variety of apple-based dishes to be entered.

Michael O'Brien, who co-chairs the Applefest with Ernie Jack, noted Konkle has lent his time to many causes, including the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau board of directors, through which he has headed up the Discover Brooke County event to showcase goods and services offered by Brooke County businesses for seven years.
