Woman’s Club to hold vet dinner

BETHANY - The GFWC WV Bethany Woman's Club made plans for Veterans Day and other activities at a meeting led by Helen Moren, president, and held at the Old Meeting House.

The group will honor veterans on Nov. 11 with a morning coffee hour at Bethany Church and a free spaghetti dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the church.

Sharon Monigold shared the history of the Old Meeting House, and devotions were led by Moren.

Judy Pyle delivered the treasurer's report. Moren reported on the soup and sandwich sale and Northern District convention held Oct. 13 at Moundsville.

Winnona Arthurs was recognized as a 25-year member and Moren won first place in arts and crafts in the recycling category.

Plans were made to make Halloween favors for Ann's Country Retreat and Valley Haven Nursing Home, observe Make A Difference Day, provide cookies for Bethany College's Connections program and fill Christmas stockings for Boatsie's Boxes.

Other projects will include sewing hats and scarves for the homeless, supporting Operation Smile, sewing Little Dresses for Africa and collaborating with Beech Bottom Community Church in its Backpack Buddies project.

Special guests were: Linda Viderman, Carmel Esposito and Mary Schwertfeger of the 20th Century Club of Follansbee; Dorothy Hawkes, Joyce Young, Patty Fisher, Sally Greathouse and Alice Mitchell of the New Cumberland Woman's Club; Lynette Williams, President, Betty Miller and Audrey Cirpompa of the Warwood Civic Club; and Karen Bracey.

Refreshments were served by Beverly and Charlotte Chambers.
