November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and registered nurse Carol Teter, diabetes nurse educator, will lead the workshop covering the following:
The vision of the American Diabetes Association is a life free of diabetes and all of its burdens. Raising awareness is one of the association's main missions in addition to programs designed to focus on issues surrounding diabetes and the people impacted by it.
Statistics show nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes, while another 79 million Americans have predicaments and are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
The free educational sessions are held the first Thursday of each month and feature physicians, dieticians and other health care professionals who cover a variety of topics, including healthy eating, monitoring blood sugar levels, taking medications and problem solving.
The sessions are open to all, not just individuals with diabetes.
Reservations are not required. Light refreshments are served, and there is a drawing for a door prize.
Transportation is available through the Harrison County Rural Transit by calling (740) 942-1369.
