WEIRTON - The city, West Virginia Credit Union League Weirton Chapter and West Virginia Municipal League are sponsoring the "If I Were Mayor, I Would ... " essay contest for seventh-grade pupils.
The entry deadline is 5 p.m. on Nov. 16, and entries must arrive at the mayor's office by that date. Entries may be mailed to: Mayor's Office, Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV 26062.
Winners will be notified by mail.

Three winners will be chosen from entries from across the state, and each will receive a plaque and $125 cash prize. The Weirton Mayor's Office and local credit unions, including First Choice America Federal Credit Union, Hancock School Employees Federal Credit Union, Strip Steel Community Federal Credit Union and Tin Mill Federal Credit Union, also will offer three local students a $125 cash prize and plaque. Those students chosen by the mayor's office and local credit unions will be recognized during a City Council meeting.
Entry forms are available at Weir Middle, St. Paul and St. Joseph the Worker Elementary school. Entry forms also are available at the mayor's office.
