WEIRTON - The new Sheetz on Three Springs Drive is slated to open in a couple weeks.
"We're almost there," Sheetz Public Relations Manager Monica Jones said. "As of today, we're set to open Nov. 15. It's not set in stone until next week ... but that's our plan. Everything should be ready to go."
The new store, which occupies the former LaPosta dealership site, features 6,500-square feet of retail space, she said. That's about 1,000-square feet more than the original location, located at the intersection of Penco and Cove Hill roads.
READY?TO?OPEN — Weirton’s new Sheetz is days away from opening. It features 6,500-square feet of retail space and likely will employ between 35 and 45 people.
"That's the reason we typically do these rebuilds," Jones said. "Sometimes we're able to do it right there, on the same piece of property, but if not we try to pick a place close to the original location so we can maintain our customer relationships and still have (the extra) room."
While the original store is relatively new - it was built in 1997 - she said the Sheetz model "has just advanced and grown so much" over the past 15 years. The menu is bigger, for instance, and that means the kitchen and floor space have to grow, too.
"Older stores don't accommodate what we like to offer these days," she said. "The new site will be much larger. The lot itself is a lot larger, there are more parking stalls, and the building itself is larger."
She said Sheetz typically employs 35-45 people at similarly-sized stores.
