STEUBENVILLE - Anytime Fitness, 322 S. Hollywood Blvd., and 218 Park Drive, Weirton, will raise funds to help veterans and their families by conducting a Tough Hero Competition from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 to benefit the Active Heroes charity.

Active Heroes is an organization that provides financial assistance and job placement services to military families in need. The competition is the nation's largest fundraiser for military families.

Anytime Fitness, the world's largest fitness club franchise, has a commitment to assisting the military community and has been named a military-friendly franchise by GI Jobs four years in a row, according to officials.

"This is such a great way for us to give back to those who serve our country, and at the same time encourage people to get fit," said Arieh Ordronneau, owner of the two local Anytime Fitness clubs. "We hope a lot of people come out to support the cause - this isn't a members-only type of thing, it's open to the public."

Participants can compete in one or more of four categories - pushups, sit-ups, pull-ups and weight lifting - in the Tough Hero Competition. Participants will be placed in divisions for men and women in under age 40 and 40 and over categories. Participants may compete in all four events, any single event or any combination of events. Winners will receive prizes.

Each registration fee is used to help a military family through Active Heroes. Active Heroes supports a broad range of needs, including assistance with financial issues such as mortgage, car payments or utility bills. Active Heroes also helps with special needs for military children, including those with fallen parents; travel assistance for military families, including vehicles for disabled veterans; job referral services for unemployed veterans; and business attire for unemployed veterans while job searching.

Register to compete at by selecting the Anytime Fitness in Steubenville or Weirton or by calling the clubs for information. Anytime Fitness of Steubenville may be contacted at (740) 346-9009. Anytime Fitness of Weirton's telephone number is (304) 748-9200.
