The Michelle’s Miles for Smiles 5k run-walk brought smiles to the family of Austin Powell, who received proceeds from the event to help them with medical bills for Powell, who is undergoing treatment for a form of brain cancer; as well as two tickets to the Steelers-Bengals game and a parking pass donated by Bre’s Tropical Illusions. The business was among many that supported the walk, which was held in memory of Michelle Huffman, a local restaurant owner who died in July following a recurring battle with breast cancer. On hand for the presentation were, from left: Taylor, Austin’s sister; Chris, his father; Rob Hilt, the event’s coordinator; Austin, Alan Huffman, Michelle’s husband; Jamie, Austin’s mother; and Bre Hastings, owner of Bre’s Tropical Illusions. Hilt said there are plans to hold the event again next year, with proceeds benefiting another local youth with cancer. -- Warren Scott
