STEUBENVILLE - Darrius D. Watts, 20, of Chicago pleaded guilty to gun charges on Monday and was sentenced to 30 months in prison by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr.

Watts pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence, having a weapon as a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon. Watts has a conviction in Illinois for unlawful use of a weapon.

Watts and Stanley G. Haywood, 26, of Chicago were indicted in connection with a firearm being found on Aug. 11 outside a bar.

Haywood was indicted on single counts of illegal possession of a firearm in a bar, tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon and having a weapon as a convicted felon.

According to police reports, Watts was arrested outside Pee Dee's bar on South Fourth Street by police responding to a report of a man brandishing a weapon inside the bar and a possible altercation following outside.

Police said when they arrived they found a crowd outside and Watts attempting to hide a firearm under a vehicle there. The county prosecutor's office believes Haywood first had the gun and passed it to Watts.

Haywood's trial is scheduled for Tuesday.

Also, Ray McGowan, 30, of Youngstown was sentenced to two years in prison by Bruzzese after McGowan pleaded guilty to trafficking in heroin and having a weapon under disability.

McGowan was arrested by City Police on Sept. 24.

Kenneth A. Byrley, 39, of 252 Hallock Ave., Mingo Junction, was sentenced by Bruzzese to one year in prison after Byrley pleaded guilty to felony domestic violence. A second case against Byrley, felony operating a vehicle under the influence, was dismissed.

Rick Willis, 22, of Salineville was sentenced by Bruzzese to six months in prison after Willis pleaded guilty to arson. Willis was charged with setting a pickup truck, which was stolen from Carroll County, on fire in Brush Creek Township in June.
