SRG to meet tonight
STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Revitalization Group will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at Froehlich's Classic Corner Restaurant.
PERI to meet Wednesday
WINTERSVILLE - Jefferson County Chapter 5 of the Public Employee Retirees will hold its monthly meeting at noon on Wednesday at Zalenski's.
Guest speaker will be John DeBonis, PERI district representative. Ellsworth Graham, PERI member, will pay a special tribute to veterans. A report of the nominating committee will be given at this meeting.
Help sought for Sandy victims
WEIRTON - Several area businesses are coming together to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Area residents are being asked to drop off blankets, toiletries, diapers, nonperishable food items and monetary donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the back entrance to the Millsop Community Center.
Among those supporting the event are concerned citizens of Weirton, Med Express, First Choice Financial and WCDK-FM.
Man found passed out from drugs in car
STEUBENVILLE - Russell Cain Jr., 27, of 116 Ohio St., Mingo Junction, was arrested by City Police Sunday evening after an officer found him passed out in a vehicle of an apparent drug overdose in the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue.
The officer found Cain unconscious around 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
The officer reported trying to wake Cain but was unable to do so. Ambulance Service Inc. was contacted and paramedics administered a drug to counteract the drugs Cain was using, police reported.
The officer reported funding a spoon with burnt residue and two hypodermic needles inside the vehicle.
Cain was taken to Trinity Medical Center West and then transported to the county jail.
He faces charges of possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of a drug abuse instrument.
Road work announced
The West Virginia Division of Highways has announced road work to be performed this week, pending suitable weather.
Crews in Hancock County will patch Shady Glen, Tope and Chapman roads; ditch along Middle Run, Patterson and Locust Hill roads; and mow along Scott, Carson and Herron roads.
Crews in Brooke County will seal cracks on Colliers Way and pull shoulders and ditches along state Route 27.
Brooke PSD moves meeting
WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Service District board has moved Wednesday's regular meeting from 5 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The meeting will be held at the board's office at 711 Charles St.
Choir to perform at OVMC Gala
WHEELING - The Brooke High School Madrigal Choir will perform at the Ohio Valley Medical Center Auxiliary Gala at 6:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Wheeling Country Club.
The black-tie event will include dinner and dancing to music by Bobby Nicholas and his band from Morgantown and begin with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.
There also will be a silent auction, with a variety of dinners, lodging, entertainment and other items up for bid, and a cash bar.
Following dinner, Kathy DePasquale and members of the Carnation Twig will serve assorted cookies and coffee.
Serving as co-chairs are Nanci Walker and Gina Smith. The event is a fundraiser for the group, which supports various projects at the hospital. This year it will support refurbishing of its elevators.
Each year an individual is honored for his or her dedication to the hospital. This year's honoree is Dr. Cesar Pizarro, a native of the Philippines who has practiced obstetrics and gynecology for more than 30 years.
