WEIRTON - The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held its monthly meeting Nov. 12 at the Serbian American Cultural Center on Colliers Way with President Joan Spano calling the meeting to order and presiding over the business session.

Chaplain Mary Ann Smith led devotions, reading "Those Who Hope in the Lord Will Soar Like an Eagle." She also offered the invocation and led special prayers for Tina Spano, Maxine Ragan, Donald Smith, Danny Lyons, George and Lola Tremblay, Wanda Perrone, Ruth Petrie, Melvin Lewis and Ilene Scott.

Shirley Brecht asked those in attendance to take a moment to thank a veteran.

Peg Dawson led the Pledge of Allegiance; Vice President Darlene Kemp called roll; and, in the absence of Treasurer Maxine Ragan, Brecht gave the financial report. Recording Secretary Carol Lyons read the October meeting minutes, which were approved as read.

Lyons also read thank-you letters from Barboursville Veteran Home for October and November birthday cards and from Boatsie's Boxes for 26 Christmas stockings for active duty troops. The stockings were provided by the auxiliary, Clyde Elliott, JoAnn Murphy, Mary Rose Spano, Helen Ferrari and Angela Mazur of Howard Hanna Mortimer Realty.

In the absence of Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott, Marcy Spano gave her report. Get-well cards were sent to Peg Dawson, Donald Smith, Joan Spano, Maxine Ragan, Tina Spano, Gabe Arlia, George Tremblay and Janice Barnett. Sympathy cards were sent to Gabe and Mary Arlia, and Thomas Stiles. Members signed get-well cards for Maxine Ragan and Tina Spano.

Brecht gave a report on the auxiliary Christmas party, which will be held Dec. 6 at Undo's. The event will include a "Secret Pals" gift exchange, and members will choose a new secret pal for 2013.

The Marines Corps Club will hold their Christmas party following their December meeting, and auxiliary members will bring covered dishes; the club will provide the meat dish.

Joan Spano sent birthday cards for those with November birthdays at the Barboursville Veterans Home.

She also placed a wreath Nov. 12 at the Millsop Community Center on behalf of the auxiliary during Veterans Day services. Bruce Hornick placed a wreath on behalf of the Marine Corps Club.

The auxiliary chose their adopted veterans for 2013, Danny Lyons, a member of the corps club.

Peg Dawson won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back to the treasurer. Carol Lyons served the refreshments.

The auxiliary will hold brown bag lunches in January and February.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the cultural center.
