By CRAIG HOWELL - Managing editor (chowell@weirtondailytimes.com) , Weirton Daily Times

WEIRTON - Those who might be alone for the Thanksgiving, or simply don't feel like dealing with the stress of the holiday, can still enjoy a traditional feast with all the fixings.

A free community Thanksgiving dinner will be held Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Greater Weirton Senior Center.

The dinner, which will include everything from turkey and ham to potatoes, green beans, stuffing, rolls and desserts, is organized each year by the Weirton Ministerial Association.

"It is a free community dinner," Elder Michael Smith, secretary of the Ministerial Association, said. "Anyone is invited to come."

A delivery service also will be available for those interested in having the dinner but unable to make it to the senior center.

Those wishing to have their meal delivered, or anyone needing help with transportation, may call either (304) 748-3490 or (304) 748-4422 to make arrangements.

Fact Box

The free community Thanksgiving dinner, presented by the Weirton Ministerial Association, will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Greater Weirton Senior Center.

Last year's dinner served approximately 250 takeout meals and 167 sit-down dinners.

Smith said a variety of games and other activities also will be available during the dinner.

"We do everything you would do at home," Smith said.

Everyone who comes to the dinner also will receive a fruit bag.

The Ministerial Association currently is accepting donations to assist with the costs of the dinner. Those interested in making a monetary donation can do so by mailing it to the Weirton Ministerial Association, P.O. Box 128, Weirton, or drop it off at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church.

Anyone interested in helping the day of the dinner also is welcome, Smith said.
