CADIZ - The Harrison County Grand Jury returned numerous indictments Wednesday.
Among those indicted were members of an accused forgery ring.
Arraignments are scheduled for Tuesday.
Christopher Johnson, 38, 154 East Warren St., Cadiz, was indicted on three counts forgery and one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
Joshua McAfee, 23, 138 Spring St., Cadiz; Gary A. Woodard, 23, 111 Stoney Ridge, Cadiz; and Blaine M. Ripley, 23, 9705 Crooked Creek Road, Uhrichsville, also were indicted for forgery.
Prosecutor Shawn Hervey said six individuals began working to create and pass fraudulent checks and obtain money. Hervey said they might have gained thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in an operation that touched Harrison, Belmont, Tuscarawas and Coshocton counties.
"We see this every once in awhile," Hervey said, adding the operation was larger and more far-reaching than others. He added Johnson has made a criminal career out of crimes of this type, with four prior cases in the Harrison County area.
Also indicted were:
Michael Riley, 19, 450 Park Ave., Cadiz, one count of rape, two counts sexual battery and one count of gross sexual imposition.
Travis R. Ferguson, 28, 211 E. High St., Freeport, felonious assault.
Jacob O'Hara, 20, 4418 Lincoln Ave., Cadiz, resisting arrest and assault of a peace officer, when authorities visited his residence on a domestic complaint and attempted to take him into custody.
