VRTAR, Frank William, 89, of Weirton, passed away Monday, November 26, 2012 in the Weirton Medical Center.
Born March 24, 1923 in Courtney, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Frances Krivac Vrtar. He was also preceded in death by his son, Frank A. Vrtar Sr. on February 15, 2008; infant great-granddaughter, Bella Marie Kirkpatrick; brothers-in-law, Anton, Frank, William and Dominic Arvis; and sisters, Isabelle Vrtar and Rose Cicchirillo.
Frank attended Robert Morris Business School and the University of Pittsburgh. After 27 years of service, Mr. Vrtar retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a cost analyst.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church where he served as usher for over 50 years, and was former president of the Holy Name Society.
He also served as Eucharistic Minister for the church and helped count the money after mass. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3734, Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, American Legion Post 10 and was former president of the Madonna Boosters.
He loved woodworking and making children's toys, was an avid stamp collector and enjoyed gardening.
During World War II, Frank served in the Army Air Corps in Okinawa, Japan. While stationed in Colorado, he was promoted to sergeant. On the night of his promotion, he met Isabelle Arvis who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They married April 13, 1946.
Mr. Vrtar is survived by his wife of 66 years, Isabelle Arvis Vrtar; his son William B. Vrtar; daughter-in-law, Andrea Purdy Vrtar, all of Weirton; grandchildren, Christine Marie Vrtar, Laura (Robert) Elliott, and Frank (Danielle) Vrtar Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Danika, Caitlin, Emily, Lily Rose, Abrehem and Hana.
Visitation will be held Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Lino Ebejer officiating. Entombment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton.
