Central swims past Monarchs

WHEELING - The Catholic Central girls swim team defeated John Marshall, 91-71, Tuesday night at Wheeling Park. The Patriots defeated the Crusaders 110-53.

Catholic Central's boys team lost to Wheeling Park (95-36) and John Marshall (92-46).

The Crusaders' Erin Mulrooney took second in the 500 free in 7:06.38, while Moriah Vosteen placed second in the 100 free (1:06.57) and 100 back (1:16.35).

The 400 free relay team of Vosteen, Sarah Derda, Maddie Gulan and Mulrooney finished second in 4:38.17.

For the boys, Brien Thompson took second in the 500 free in 6:31.13.

Jacob Arai, a junior, won the 100 back in 1:13:96 and teamed with Noah Flores, Thompson and Timmy Schlich for third in the 400 free relay (4:48:29). The team of Arai, Andrew Milewsky, Schlich and Thompson took third in the 200 medley relay in 2:25:96.

Big Red sweeps Knights

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Big Red swim teams swept Wheeling Central Monday at the Big Red Natatorium 89-64 (girls) and 89-61 (boys).

Allie Zimish grabbed the 200 IM (3:01.06) and 100 fly (1:26.55) for Big Red. Katie Slivka won the 100 free (1:07.89) and 100 breaststroke (1:23.54) , Haley Knight the 100 back (1:14.29) and Steubenville won the 200 medley relay (2:19.09) and 200 free relay (2:13.05).

For the boys, Dominic DiCarlo touched the wall first in the 200 IM (2:37.51) and 200 fly (1:15.84), Ryan Ledakis in the 200 free (2:56.64), Leon Levi in the 50 free (25.95) and Albert Alston in the 100 back (1:29.98). Steubenville also won the 200 free relay (2:10.86) and 400 free relay (4:37.65).

Meet the Bears to be held

NEW MANCHESTER - The Oak Glen wrestling team will hold its annual Blue Gold Wrestle-off intrasquad scrimmage at 6 p.m. tonight in the high school fieldhouse.

Oak Glen will hold its winter sports Meet the Bears at 7 p.m. Thursday in the fieldhouse. Both middle and high school boys and girls basketball, wrestling and cheering team members, as well as the high school marching band will be introduced.

Admission is free and winter sports pocket schedules will be available.

Elks Hoop Shoot being held Saturday

CALCUTTA - The free Elks Hoop Shoot free-throw contest will be he held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Calcutta YMCA. It is open to all boys and girls ages 8-13. Prizes available for top performers. Registration will begin at 11a.m.
