WEIRTON - Tyler Owens scored 16 of his game-high 19 points in the second half as the Toronto boys basketball team outscored Jefferson County Christian School 38-22 in the second half en route to a 64-39 victory Friday night at the Millsop Community Center.
It was the mutual season-opener for both teams.
Brad Melville added 18 points, Blaze Glenn 11 and Dillon Gault 10 for the winners, who were 17-for-24 from the free throw line.
Garrison Mathison paced the Royals with 17 points.

WELLSBURG - The Brooke girls basketball team fell to visiting Morgantown 67-21 Friday.
Angela Staffileno led the Bruins with 11 points. Brooke struggled from the foul line, going four-for-13 and Morgantown hit 27 shots from the field to Brooke's eight.
The Bruins (0-2) host Wheeling Park Tuesday.
Marion Local wins Division VI title
MASSILLON - Hunter Wilker scored on a 1-yard run with 21 seconds left to lead Maria Stein Marion Local to its sixth state football championship, 28-21 over Newark Catholic in Division VI on Friday.
Wilker, a freshman wide receiver, had three TD runs as the Flyers (13-2) repeated as champions despite losing tailbacks Jacy Goettemoeller and Aaron Nietfeld to injuries.
Nate Nagel broke up a potential tying pass in the end zone with no time left.
Chayce Croch threw two TD passes and had a 5-yard TD run for Newark Catholic (12-3), seeking its ninth title.
Wilker scored from 6 yards 19 seconds left in the first half. Moved to running back after Nietfeld went down, Wilker picked his way through the right side for an 11-yard TD with 18 seconds left in the third quarter for a 21-14 lead.
Fighting Irish claim Division II crown
MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) - Amir Edwards has rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns to help Toledo Central Catholic win its second Ohio state Division II football championship by beating defending champion Trotwood-Madison 16-12.
The 14-1 Fighting Irish held Trotwood-Madison running back Isreal Green to 56 yards on 14 carries Friday night. A year ago, Green had 326 yards and six touchdowns when the Rams won the title.
Trotwood-Madison is 12-3. It got a pair of touchdown passes from Messiah Deweaver in the fourth quarter. He hit Ryon Lucas from 13 yards with 9:20 to play and connected with Demarcus Wilson from 24 yards with 2:38 left.
Toledo Central Catholic also won the title in 2005.
Wayne wins 2nd straight AA crown
WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - Brandon Spurlock rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns as No. 1 seed Wayne shut out No. 2 Keyser 35-0 for its second straight Class AA championship Friday night at Wheeling Island Stadium.
Grant Ferguson completed 3 of 5 passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns for Wayne (14-0), with both scoring tosses coming on fourth-and-long. He also ran for 61 yards.
Keyser (12-2) was held to 92 yards of total offense, including 31 in the first half. The Golden Tornado entered the game averaging 51 points and 502 yards.
