WEIRTON - The United Methodist Women of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church met Nov. 26 with President Dee Campbell opening the meeting by leading members in reciting the United Methodist Women Purpose.
Campbell led the program, "World Thanks Offering," an offering taken once a year to help under-privileged women throughout the world. It has been a UMW project since 1881, and members place a small offering in a box daily to remind them of their many blessings. The program included readings by Lynne Lynch, Barb Snyder, Shirley Guz and Sylvia Resnik. Campbell also gave a scripture reading.
Eldora Conner and Lynch were hostesses. Lynch read a poem, "Summer Heart" and a humorous piece on turning 60.
Secretary Lynch read the minutes, and Treasurer Mary Webb gave her report, both of which were approved.
Campbell reported the group sent 34 bags of personal hygiene products to the Boys and Girls Club of Weirton and purchased paper products for the Table of Hope.
The group will attend the Church Women United's Christmas party at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at the St. Peter's A.M.E. Church, and the United Methodist Women's Christmas party will be held Dec. 10 at Undo's. The group will participate in a "baby shower" April 7 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in New Cumberland.
The group's October and November bake sale fundraisers were reported to have done well, and the funds raised will assist the group in doing charitable work.
The meeting was closed with prayer.
