Power outage

hits Wellsburg

WELLSBURG - About 1,600 customers outside Wellsburg and in the Cross Creek area were without power beginning around at 2:30 a.m. today.

Allen Staggers, Mon Power spokesperson, said crews determined a couple fuses blew on transformers in the Cross Creek substation.

Power was expected to be restored around noon.

The outage caused the cancellation of classes in Brooke County schools.

Wayne trustees

move meeting

BLOOMINGDALE - The Wayne Township trustees have changed this month's meeting to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 at the township garage on county Road 26.

The regular meeting would have fallen on Christmas Day, officials said.

Band to perform

for Christmas light-up

FOLLANSBEE - The Driftin' Hoopie Experience, a local country band, will perform for the city's Christmas light-up, which will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Ray Stoaks Plaza by the Follansbee City Building.

There also will be an appearance by Santa Claus and refreshments.

Free Christmas

concert to be held

WELLSBURG - A free Christmas concert, featuring 40 Plus, a local classic rock and roll band, will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Wellsburg Middle School.

The concert is being sponsored by the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau and city of Wellsburg.

MINGO JUNCTION - Mayor Ron DiCarlo said he is accepting applications for the position of village administrator.

Persons wishing to be considered for the job are asked to drop off a resume or other information at the Municipal Building during normal business hours.
