Emilio Piccirillo

PICCIRILLO, Emilio M. "Pic," 87, of Follansbee, WV., passed away, Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV.

Emilio was born June 22, 1925 in Follansbee, WV. He was the son of the late Tommaso and Grazia (Fiorillo) Piccirillo.

Emilio graduated from Follansbee High School in 1943 and West Liberty State College in 1949 with a degree in Secondary Education. He later earned a Master Degree from West Virginia University. Emilio was a United States Navy Veteran serving during WWII as an instructor for naval operations at the University of Wisconsin.

Emilio spent his entire life as a teacher and educator. He taught for three years in New Mexico and then spent 33 years in the Hancock County School System at both Cove Junior High and Weir Junior High Schools as a math teacher and counselor. Emilio also spent many years teaching drivers education for summer school. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Follansbee and the Hancock County Retired Teachers Association.

In addition to his parents, Emilio was preceded in death by his step-father Constantino Calverese, four brothers, Steve Piccirillo, Felix Piccirillo, Joe Calverese, Angelo Calverese, and four sisters, Edith Piccirillo, Elizabeth Musker, Rose Basil and Theresa Kafton.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Virginia (Knightstep) Piccirillo of Follansbee, WV and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 1 until Vigil Service at 3:30 and 6-8 p.m. at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, WV, where the funeral will commence on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 9 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1017 Jefferson Street, Follansbee, WV, with Msgr. Paul Hudock, presiding.

Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee with full military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, c/o Bell Tower, 1017 Jefferson Street, Follansbee, WV 26037.
