Bethany College President Scott D. Miller confirmed that Bethany alumnus Jeff Previdi's daughter, Caroline, 6, was killed in the shooting Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Previdi is from the Class of 1994 and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Bethany.
"With deepest sympathy, the entire Bethany College community extends our heartfelt condolences to Bethany alumnus Jeff Previdi '94 and his family on the loss of his daughter, Caroline Previdi, who was killed in the senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School," Miller said.
On Monday evening, Miller announced that Beta Theta Pi members on campus worked through the weekend to set up a scholarship fund in Caroline's honor for students majoring in education, with a goal of raising $100,000.

Several communities throughout the Ohio Valley have scheduled tributes this week.
In Weirton, a candlelight vigil service is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday in front of the Thomas E. Millsop Community Center on Main Street. And Beech Bottom Mayor George Lewis said his community also will hold a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the veterans' memorial, located just off state Route 2.
St. John Central High School in Bellaire will hold a prayer service in the high school gymnasium at 11:15 a.m. today. Other area schools have been invited to attend, and organizers said the high school also will extend the school's Christmas food drive through Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Altmeyer, Bauknecht-Altmeyer and Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Homes are offering local residents the opportunity to express their condolences to those in Newtown.
The funeral homes have prepared a Tribute Memorial that includes cards, photos, flowers, memorial register book and candles. The funeral homes will send the memorial book, cards, notes and pictures from the local communities to the office of Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday.
Anyone wishing to stop by and sign the tribute book can do so from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Friday.
