Riesbeck’s gives to Wheeling Hospital center

December 16, 2012
Weirton Daily Times

WHEELING - Wheeling Hospital's Comprehensive Breast Care Center is receiving a $2,000 boost - money that will be used to help women pay for cancer treatment, diagnostic tests and other related expenses.

Officials with Riesbeck's, in partnership with the Delallo company, presented the check to breast center coordinator Deborah Radosevich and Dr. Lisa Schatz, Wheeling Hospital's senior director of clinical services, at the Elm Grove store Tuesday.

Radosevich said what makes the donation special is that it will be helping local women who are receiving treatment or who need diagnostic testing such as a mammogram. The money also is often used to help women - who are uninsured or underinsured - pay for related costs, such as gasoline to reach the hospital. The money was generated via boxed lunches sold at the store and a contribution from Dellalo, which sells various food products at Riesbeck's.

''They have always been good to us in the past,'' Radosevich said of the companies. ''The women are always very appreciative.''

During the past year, 300 women have benefited from various donations and grants the breast center has received.

John Chickery, Riesbeck's bakery program director, said $1 from every boxed lunch sold at the store was donated to the cause.

''We're happy to be a part of this. ... And the money stays local, which is a wonderful thing,'' Chickery said. ''It's a great cause - early detection is key. ... Anytime we can help people locally, it's a good thing to do.''

Also in attendance during the presentation were Elm Grove Riesbeck's store Director Chalky Carrol; Bridgeport Riesbeck's store Director Jeannie Curry; Delallo account executive Jim Schevchik; Delallo New Business Director Fred Mazur; and Riesbeck's deli director Johnny Harubin.
