Brooke Library to screen

children's film

WELLSBURG The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the film The Odd Life of Timothy Green, rated PG, at noon at Jan. 2.

The story is about a happily married couple who cant wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child will be like. When young Timothy shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, they learn sometimes the unexpected can bring lifes greatest gifts.

PSD meeting scheduled

The Hancock County Public Service District has scheduled its next board meeting for Jan. 7 at noon.

The meeting will take place in the Hancock-Oakland PSD office.

Those interested are asked to send their photos either via email or U.S. Postal Service for publication in a future edition of The Weirton Daily Times. When sending a photo by email, send a large-size .jpeg, .jpg or .tif file as an attachment to swallace@pafocus.com.

When sending a photo by USPS, please send a 3-inch by 5-inch photo to Summer Wallace-Minger, c/o The Weirton Daily Times, 401 Herald Square, Steubenville, OH 43952. We cannot accept photos printed on home computer printers. Please include your name, the name of your school or day care, a brief description of the celebration and a day-time phone number.

Bethany women celebrate

Christmas

BETHANY - The GFWC-WV Bethany Woman's Club held its Christmas dinner Dec. 11 at Bethany Memorial Church, with Helen Moren, president, presiding.

The invocation was delivered by Judy Pyle. Handling dinner arrangements was Charlotte Chambers while Connie McVicar was in charge of decorations.

A donation was made to the state scholarship fund for victims of domestic violence. A scholarship is awarded annually to help women affected by domestic violence to reshape their future by establishing a career and gainng personal independence.

Favors were made for Valley Haven and Ann's Country Retreat.

Guests were former Kiwanis members Ted Bunnell and Jack Hoffman, Lawrence Pyle, Akardy Seidweitz, Ray Godina, Karen Bracey, Lloyd VanHorn, Bill Riggs, Cindy Hoffman, Ruth Jones and Donna Lovato.

The meeting concluded with a game. The group will meet again in February.

Follansbee auxiliary discusses

projects

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee American Legion Auxiliary met in the post home Dec. 12 with Rita Robinson, president, presiding.

Topics covered included what to do for veterans for Christmas and a discussion on holidng a Night at the Races in April.

The auxiliary received an appreciation letter from the Hospital Care Project at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany for having sent donations of ankle and crew socks and boxer shorts for the wounded.

Members were reminded that the $20 dues are due by Dec. 31. If not received, they will be declared delinquent.

YMCA will host league

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - The East Liverpool Young Men's Christian Association will hold a competitive boys basketball league for children in the fifth and sixth grades.

Games will be played on Sundays and begin Jan. 13, with a mandatory coaches meeting Jan. 6. Each team will play eight regular season games, followed by a single elimination tournament. Members of each team must be from the same school district, and the cost is $100 per team. For information, call the YMCA at (330) 385-0663.

Weirton Steel Management Club won't meet

WEIRTON - The Weirton Steel Management Club will not meet in December; the meeting has been canceled. The next meeting will be Jan. 28.
