Family events planned at Ohio County library

The Ohio County Public Library has announced several upcoming family programs taking place through March.

January 14, 6 p.m.: Winter Delights Family Literacy Night

Beat the cold weather blues and join an evening of winter family fun! The event will include a reading of "Snow Day for Mouse" by Judy Cox and "Cold Snap" by Eileen Spinelli, then have a build a snowman relay, a friendly snowball fight, and a snow globe craft. Registration is required for this event and may be done by calling (304) 232-0244.

Feb. 4, 6 p.m.

Black History Month Family Literacy Night

Help celebrate Black History Month with an evening of fun. Includes a reading of "The Moon Over Star" by Dianna Hutts Aston and "Bring On That Beat" by Rachel Isadora, a performance of a reader's theater about Rosa Parks, and make a Family Wall Hanging using fabric, crayons, and markers.

Feb. 19, 4 p.m.

JACKIE: Cross the Line

Actor Gregory Gibson Kenney portrays the legendary Jackie Robinson, discussing Robinson's life story, including his role as a Major League Baseball pioneer, opening the door for African Americans in America's game.

Feb. 19, 6 p.m.

ROBERTO: A Chat with an Angel

Join Pittsburgh Pirate, Roberto Clemente (portrayed by Gregory Kenney), as he guides you on a journey from his childhood through his legendary career.

This baseball angel tells a story of desire and determination that shows how he became one of society's most valuable players.

March 2, 1 p.m.

Bake a Cake for Dr. Seuss-Cake Decorating Contest

Individuals or families may work together to create a Seuss-themed cake for the contest. Prizes will be awarded. After the contest there will be a reading of "The Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss and a decorate your own book bag craft. The cakes will be sliced and shared as participants sing "Happy Birthday" to Dr. Seuss.

March 29, noon

Easter Egg Drop Program

Can your child use recycled materials to design a container that will protect an egg from a 5 foot drop?

The library will provide the recycled materials and the eggs, and the children will be asked to provide the creativity. They will be given 30 minutes to construct their container, and prizes will be awarded for the best design.
