Charity collecting
for Sandy Hook
SALINEVILLE, Ohio - The Joshua Project, a Columbiana County nonprofit organization, is collecting for the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims until Jan. 30.
Funds may be dropped off at Huntington Bank for the Connecticut Shooting Victims Memorial Fund. Funds will be transferred to the Sandy Hook Memorial Fund at Newtown Savings Bank.

The events include the American-Hellenic Educational Progressive Association Super Bowl Sunday event, Feb. 3; the Philoptochos Greek Easter Bake Sale, March 21; Eastern Orthodox Easter celebration May 5; Friends of All Saints Dinner, May 11; 26th Annual Weirton Greek Festival, July 18-20; A.H.E.P.A. Oktoberfest, Oct. 5; and the A.H.E.P.A. pancake breakfast, Nov. 3.

screenings
WEIRTON - Christ United Methodist Church will host a Life Line Screening Feb. 4 at the church located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave.
The screening will reduce the risk of having a stroke or bone fracture, according to organizations.
Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk also is offered and is appropriate for both men and women.
All five screenings take 60 to 90 minutes to complete. Packages start at $149.

WHEELING - The third-annual Bella Sera del Vino, a dinner featuring Italian cuisine and wines, will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 16 at the West Virginia Northern Culinary Arts Dining Room located on the second floor of the Education Center at 17th and Chapline streets.
The event is hosted by the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Festival Committee and West Virginia Northern's Culinary Arts Department and raises funds for the festival committee's scholarships.
North Central Distributors will provide various wines from throughout the Italian countryside. Culinary Arts Program chefs and students will prepare the food.
The cost is $30 per person and $50 per couple. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scholarships are offered to high school seniors from Hancock, Brooke, Ohio and Marshall counties in West Virginia, and Jefferson and Belmont counties in Ohio. Scholarship amounts are based on the funds raised through several events held throughout the year, including the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Festival in July.

WELLSBURG - Brooke County Genealogy is selling "Lookin' Back," a pictorial history of Brooke County featuring 500 photos of various people, places and events in the county over the years.
Copies of the 198-page book are $25 each, plus tax, and can be obtained at the Brooke County Public Library or Brooke County Museum.
