What happened to the so-called war on cancer?

Weirton Daily Times

To the Editor,

On May 25, 1961, President Kennedy went before a joint session of Congress to explain his decision to catch up and overtake the Soviet Union in the race to the moon.

He stated, "no space project will be more difficult or more expensive to accomplish the goal in reaching the moon." On July 20, 1969, we accomplished that goal just as we were inspired to do.

On Dec. 23, 1971, President Nixon signed into law an act declaring war on cancer. We were to find a cure within 10 years. An excerpt from the act read: "The director shall collect, analyze and disseminate information useful in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, including the establishment of an international cancer research databank for cancer research undertaken in any country for the use of any person involved in cancer research.

Now, 41 years later we are still faced with this dreadful disease. The best we have to offer the patient is surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. Over 550,000 people are dying each year from some type of cancer. Over $300 billion, yes I said billion, is spent each year on the treatment of cancer in the United States.

Where has all the research money gone?

Is the money being spent on different treatments instead of trying to find a cure and the cause of cancer?

It is time we get our priorities in order. It seems we were more inspired to reach the moon than to win the war against cancer. We need to be more inspired to find a cure to save our lives and the lives of our loved ones.

I keep asking myself, since the treatment of cancer is a $300 billion a year business, do they really want to find a cure?

Should you not believe this to be possible, just go to your computer or iPad and ask the question "Who was Dr. Royal Rife?" You will find some very interesting reading. Also ask the question, "Who is Barry Lynes?" This information will shock you.

Come on researchers, the people of the world deserve much better.
