Lunch With Books programs scheduled

WHEELING - The Ohio County Public Library has announced upcoming Lunch With Books program.

They include:

noon Tuesday, "Bagpipe Tribute to Robert Burns." Bagpiper Betsy Bethl-McFarland will provide a musical tribute to Robert Burns, "Scotland's Bard" and "The Ploughman Poet," in honor of his Jan. 25, 1759 birthday.

noon Jan. 29, "The Godfather." The Wheeling Film Society will host a discussion on Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather." Those attending can see the film at 7 p.m. Friday at Towngate Cinema for free. The film society is a partnership between the library, Wheeling Jesuit University's Fire Arts Department and Oglebay Institute's Towngate Cinema.

noon Feb. 5, "Bills of Lading Freight on Board, Wheeling, West Virginia." John Bowman discusses his book and the more than 750 products manufactured in and shipped from Wheeling from 1790 to 1915, including Marsh Wheeling Stogies, Mail Pouch Tobacco and La Belle Nails. The book includes more than 500 images, including business letterheads and steamboat and railroad bills of lading. It also details Wheeling's cigar manufacturing history and includes an index more more than 4,000 names.

noon Feb. 12, "African-American Faces of the Civil War." Ronald S. Coddington, Civil War photograph collector, combines archival images and biographical stories in his book, which contains many previously unpublished photographs of African-Americans involved in the Civil War, including those who fought for their freedom. Coddington also authored "Faces of the Civil War: Union Soldiers" and "Faces of the Confederacy." He is a regular contributor to the New York Times series "Disunion."

Lunch With Books programs are free and open to the public. Patrons are invited to bring a bag lunch and free beverages are served.
