New caregiver support group

begins meeting Tuesday

WINTERSVILLE, Ohio - Valerie Bush, an occupational therapist with Carriage Inn Home Care in Wintersville, is launching a caregiver support group meeting, beginning Tuesday.

It will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Carriage Inn Home Care Office on Luray Drive, Wintersville.

"This group is for people caring for a loved one on a regular basis, who may need the additional support of others," Bush said.

St. Paul holding fundraiser for child

BRIDGEPORT, Ohio - The St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold a soup and sandwich fundraiser for Kelsi Weaver from noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at the the church located at 56381 National Road, next to Wilson Funeral Home.

The menu will include soups, sandwiches and desserts. The event includes a 50/50 drawing, lottery tree and Chinese auction.

Kelsi, 11, suffers from Cerebral Palsy. The fundraiser will defray costs to purchase a wheelchair ramp for the family van.

Church to hold soup sale Feb. 1

COLLIERS - The Colliers United Methodist Church will hold its annual Super Soup Sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 1.

The church is located at 318 Pennsylvania Ave., across from the Colliers Post Office.

Potato soup, with or without dumplings, vegetable soup and chicken noodle soup will be sold. The cost is $5 per quart. Only takeout will be available. Delivery will be available for orders of 10 or more quarts. All orders must be made by Jan. 29.

The fundraiser supports the church youth group.

WBA to host pitching class

WEIRTON - The Weirton Baseball Association will be offering weekly girls softball pitching lessons.

The classes will begin in February and be led by a local university coach. Pre-registration is mandatory and must be completed by Jan. 15.

Cleaning and buffing service offered

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County is offering a new service - disc cleaning.

The January newsletter encourages people to bring in their DVDs and CDs from home to have them "cleaned and buffed" for $1.

The new service is available at the main library and at the Schiappa, Toronto and Tiltonsville branches.

Survivors, Seekers hear reports

The Survivors and Seekers held their January monthly luncheon meeting with 11 in attendance.

Mary Pasich offered the prayer.

Reports were given by Darlene Pehanich, secretary, and Pasich, treasurer.

Continued discussion was held on ordering additional copies of "The Lost Children of the Ohio Valley," with Charlie Lash, president, to check into it.

The next meeting will be held Feb. 8 at 12:30 p.m. at Wintersville United Methodist Church.

Feline Fix-It clinics continue

SMITHFIELD, Ohio - Hounds' Haven Animal Shelter is continuing its weekly low-cost spay/neuter clinics for cats only. The offer is limited to households in need, or for any household caring for stray cats in their area.

Cat spays are $35, and cat neuters are $20. Patrons are required to schedule an appointment and pre-pay. Call the shelter at (740) 733-8546, leave a message and expect a contact regarding appointment time and instructions.

Hounds' Haven is a private, nonprofit, "quality-of-life" shelter for homeless pets from around the Ohio Valley. It provides quality care for life to hundreds of animals each day. It also operates a comprehensive pet adoption program, public education and low-cost pet medical services.

SHS alumni group to meet

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Steubenville High School Alumni Association will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Scaffidi's Restaurant.
