Leadership Weirton began a new year this weekend with 13 participants.
Organized each year by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, the program takes the class through a series of five sessions which give a glimpse into several elements of our local communities, including government, economic development, history, education and health services.
For any community to move forward, it needs involvement and fresh ideas from its citizens. That has been the goal of Leadership Weirton in its 21-year history, and we thank the chamber for continuing to provide such a program for the betterment of our area.
Members of this year's class and their sponsors are: MaryLee Ammon, of Hancock County Savings Bank; Lawrence DeRosa, of West Virginia Northern Community College; DeeAnn Greene-Marszalek, of Melaleuca The Wellness Company; Marisa Marino, of Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort; MaryLou Martire-Pittman, of Weirton Wal-Mart; Karen Mason, of Hancock County Senior Services; Jennifer McHenry, of Hancock County Savings Bank; Sarah Parsons, of Hancock County Schools; Renee Salkovick, of the City of Weirton; Alecia Sirk, of Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau; Patricia Soplinski, of the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce; P.J. Tokash, of Weirton Geriatric Center; and Danielle Welshans, of Fairfield Inn and Suites.
It is our hope their experiences through Leadership Weirton will further encourage them to become more involved in their communities.
We thank them for taking these first steps into community service and hope they find their own path of giving back while encouraging others to do the same.
