STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Steubenville Saddle Club held its annual awards banquet Saturday evening at the East Springfield Community Center with about 80 in attendance at the covered-dish dinner that featured a variety of food, door prizes and drawings, and the presentation of various awards in different divisions for the 2012 show season.
Robin Wedlake, points secretary, presented the awards, assisted by John Carroll, committee member.
The top two awards of the evening went to Ginny Carulli (Zippo's Captain), high point performance, and to Ashley Barnes (Peanut), high point contest.
The name in parentheses, incidentally, is the name of the winner's horse.
Carulli also won halter and youth (14-18) horsemanship, walk/trot, English & trail, while Barnes also won adult barrels & poles and stakes.

Logan Fomenko (Mater), small fry pleasure; Jadyn Nicholson (Socks), small fry barrels; Makenna Carter (C Diddy), small fry showmanship and pleasure; Timmy Lamantia (Fancy), small fry horseman andpleasure; Justin Carroll (Awesome Irish Bars), youth (9-13) barrels; Jayllex Mills (A Sweet Rosy Chip), youth (9-13) walk/trot, pleasure and horsemanship; Allison Lamantia (Apache Running Dear), youth English (9-13); Heaven Vojvodich (Fancy Fortune), youth gaited horse (9-13); Justin Carroll (Watch Rose Jack), youth showmanship (9-13); Hunter Johnson (Ultimate Hobby Horse), youth pleasure (14-18); Courtney Darling (Apache), youth (14-18) barrels and poles and stakes; John Carroll III (Watch Me Joe Jack), halter, youth (14-18) showmanship and walk/trot; Ben Boyd (Aries), halter and open driving; Gabriel Glenn (Wise Willy), lead line; Reese Fomenko (Mater), lead line; Darlene Chuich (Zip on Account), adult walk-trot, horsemanship and pleasure; Peggy Vojvodich (Karma), adult gaited horse; and Mara Carducci (Designed By Me), adult showmanship, English and trail.
Wedlake welcomed everyone to the dinner and offered the blessing, while Dale Holcomb, the club's vice president, expressed appreciation for the turnout and for those who helped with the dinner.
In addition to Holcomb and Wedlake, other club leaders are Debbie Grimes, president; Marty Ternasky, show secretary; Marlene Lamantia, co-secretary; Denise Gordon, co-secretary and announcer for pleasure classes; Kathleen and Dennis Hickle, contest announcers, scorekeepers and timekeepers; Susan Carulli, kitchen committee; Jack Carroll, groundskeeper; John Carroll, committee member; Wes Darling and Rodney Moore, maintenance assistants; and Kathleen Hickle, treasurer.
Holcomb gave a pitch for an upcoming karaoke contest to be held at the community center, located on county Road 39, East Springfield, on Feb. 15, beginning at 7 p.m.
The entry fee is $5, and there will be two categories - one for adults age 17 and older; the other for children age 16 and under. Cash prizes will be awarded in both age groups. For adults, the winnings will be: $100, first prize; $75, second prize; and $50, third prize. In the children's division, the winners will receive: $50, first prize; $40, second prize; and $30, third prize.
The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. Tickets will be given to all contestants for the drawing of additional prizes. Music will be provided by disc jockey Chelsea Matta.

"It's going to be a real nice, fun night," Holcomb said.
Wedlake announced that forms were available for club membership, which is open to everybody whether you have a horse and show or have no horse at all.
An annual membership for a family is $25; $15 for an individual; and $10 for a youth. For 2013 memberships, checks can be made payable to the Steubenville Saddle Club and mailed to SCC, P.O. Box 431, Richmond, OH 43944. They also can be brought to the next meeting, which will be held Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Glenn Mills Senior Community Center on state Route 152 south, Richmond.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at the club grounds on state Route 152 north, Richmond, from April through November. The March meeting will be held at the Glenn Mills center also. Everyone is welcome.
It was announced at the banquet that the club's kitchen that provides food during the four shows held on the club grounds will be handled by Diane Salsberry of the East Springfield Community Center.
As for the shows, before you know it, the season will be here. The four dates are May 5, June 30, July 14 and Sept. 1.
