Brooke schools offer adult education

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Board of Education will offer a variety of adult education courses, including the GED exam and hunter education required for a state hunting license, beginning the week of Feb. 18.

Except for the GED and hunter education courses, which are free, the courses require a $50 fee with the exception of the welding course, which requires a $100 fee.

The GED class is held at the Brooke County Public Library. All others are held at Brooke High School.

Most are nine weeks and must have at least 10 people register or they will be canceled. Pre-registration isn't required for the hunter education class.

The following courses are on the schedule:

Adult basic education for GED preparation, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays or 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays.

Auto mechanics, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Materials are required.

Internet and computer skills, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Sewing/quilting, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays. Materials are required.

Crocheting/knitting, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Materials are required.

Fundamentals of machining, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Materials are required.

NCCER training, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Materials are required.

Welding, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays.

The hunter education class will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. April 9-11. Junior permits are available for 8- and 9-year-old participants.

Permanent permits are available for ages 10 and up. Participants 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent.

The adult education program also includes the Upper Ohio Valley Fire and Rescue School, which offers training to firefighters, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 23-24.
