Woman hit by car on county Road 22A

WINTERSVILLE -A woman was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sunday evening after she was struck by a car on county Road 22A, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

A trooper reported Susan U. Caniff, 55, of 311 Woodview Lane, Wintersville, was crossing the county road at Malone Drive around 6:38 p.m. Sunday when she was struck by a car driven by James B. Truax, 68, of 137 Churchman Circle, Wintersville.

The accident remains under investigation, the patrol reported.

Oven gas line causes fire

STEUBENVILLE - A gas supply line on a stove cracked and caused a fire around 3 p.m. Sunday at 449 S. Seventh St., the City Fire Department reported.

The fire department reported a person was cooking at the stove at the time and used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames.

Firefighters responded and disconnected the gas line at the meter. Only a kitchen cabinet was damaged, the fire department.

Loose flue causes house fire

STEUBENVILLE -A flue pipe came loose on the outside of a house at 913 Merryman Ave. around 8:34 a.m. Sunday causing a fire that burned from the outside in, the City Fire Department reported.

The fire department reported the fire came inside the walls and went up into the attic. Firefighters had to cut holes in the walls to make sure the fire was extinguished.

The fire department reported it had problems with frozen hydrants, so a tanker truck from Hillndale Volunteer Fire Department was called as a precaution. Mingo Junction Fire Department also provided assistance.

The American Red Cross Jefferson County Chapter provided the family with housing assistance.

Boil order issued for Wellsburg

WELLSBURG - A 48-hour boil order was issued at 4 a.m. today for all Wellsburg water customers and those in suburban areas, including Washington Pike and White Bell Circle.

The order was issued after crews were called to repair a line break at 12th and Charles streets at about noon Sunday. The break left the city without water until early today.

A corroded part in the line is believed to have been the cause, according to officials.

Council to meet in executive session

STEUBENVILLE - City Council's finance committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in executive session to discuss personnel.

A regular council meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers.

Council calls special meeting

WELLSBURG - Wellsburg Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall to consider cost estimates and financing for repairs and improvements to City Hall.

Buckeye Local board to meet Friday

DILLONVALE - The Buckeye Local school board will meet in special session at 8 a.m. Friday in the administrative office, 6899 state Route 150, to place an emergency levy on the May ballot, officials said.
