World Day of
WEIRTON - Church Women United of Weirton will celebrate World Day of Prayer at 1 p.m. March 1 at the First Christian Church on Main Street.
The theme is "Matthew 25 - I Was a Stranger and You Welcomed Me," observing church communities are called to care for the hungry, thirsty, strangers, sick, naked and impoverished. The program colors are dark and light red, orange and yellow.
Each year, the World Day of Prayer service is developed in a different country, and, in 2013, the French World Day of Prayer Committee developed the theme.
People of all faiths are invited to attend the service, which will be handicapped accessible.
A fellowship tea will be held immediately following the service. Project Chair Diane Pastoric announced, as the World Day of Prayer project, Church Women will collect household cleaning products, bleach and paper goods.
Program Coordinator Joyce Summers and the first-year delegates will make preparations at 10 a.m. Feb. 28 at the church. The choir will meet with Music Coordinator Wadeanne Nardo and Choir Director Mary Ellen Groves immediately after practice.
Unit President Karen Tate stated Church Women members gathered together to celebrate God's promises and has chosen "Standing on the Promise of God" as her theme for 2013.
NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oakland District Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fish fry from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and every Friday until Good Friday, March 29, at the fire hall on Wylie Ridge Road.
Deliveries are available with a $20 minimum order. Coleman's fish will be available.

WEIRTON - The Weir High School Class of 2015 Parent Group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the high school cafeteria to discuss spring and fall fundraisers.

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Agape Apostolic Assembly will hold a fundraising dinner to benefit the Agape Homeless Shelter Renovation Fund at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church's dining hall located at 525 Slack St.
The theme is "Sharing Our Love," and Laura Meeks, Eastern Gateway Community College president, is the guest speaker.
The shelter is located at 510-512 South St., Steubenville.
