STEUBENVILLE - In an effort to assist backyard gardeners beautifying their properties this spring, the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Ohio State University Extension Office and Jefferson County Farm Bureau are offering an informational workshop.

"Making the Most of Your Backyard - From Flowerpots to Fields" is an informational workshop open to the public from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 21 at the Schiappa branch of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County.

The workshop will highlight how the agencies can assist in making the most of the resources in everyone's backyard, whatever the size may be, officials said.

The presenters at the two-hour session will provide information on services and resources available to the public, including conservation programs, backyard gardens, farming, forestry, watersheds and environmental sustainability.

Presenters will discuss ways that those with an interest in natural resources can connect locally with peer groups that share the same passions for gardening, sustainable farming, trails and greenways, watershed protection and more. The session also will highlight the many volunteer opportunities to become more involved.

The Jefferson County 4-H program will host children's activities for the evening. There will be ideas presented for a family picnic as well, officials said.

Light refreshments will be provided.

For information, contact the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District at (740) 264-9790 or go to wzadanski@jefferson countyoh.com.
