To the editor:
I am more than 70 years old. Like many people my age, I have numerous medical problems. Imagine my dismay at receiving bills from doctors I have never heard of for treatments I didn't know I had as much as nine months after a hospital stay.
What kind of accounting takes nine months to notify a person that he or she owes money? This reeks of incompetence and hints of fraud.
I understand that medical billing is complex, but this is absurd. If it was uncommon, I'd let if pass, but it seems to be a routine event.
