Ladies auxiliary meets

WEIRTON - The American Legion Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary held their monthly meeting Feb. 18, with President Shirley Brecht calling the meeting to order and presiding over the business session.

Chaplain Wanda Perrone gave the invocation; Brecht led the Pledge of Allegiance and the recitation of the American Legion Auxiliary's Constitution's Preamble; and Secretary Clara Robinson called roll.

Robinson read the November meeting minutes, because the January meeting was canceled due to inclement weather. The auxiliary received thank-you cards from Bonnie's Bus and a Korean War dinner attendee. Perrone sent a get-well card to Joan Spano and a sympathy card to Joann Jamison. Treasurer Loretta Fabian gave the November, December and January financial reports, which were approved as read and will be filed for audit.

Fabian listed the auxiliary's February donations, including veterans' homes in West Virginia and Pennsylvania; Children's Miracle Network; Auxiliary Emergency Fund; National Child Welfare Foundation; Make-A-Wish Foundation; and a donation to a local family in need. The auxiliary received a donation to defray Girls State costs from the Weirton Woman's Club. Brecht thanked auxiliary members and Edith Truax for their contributions to the Christmas party, Joan Spano and Marcy Spano for donating a cookie tray, and Clara Robinson and Gloria Jerrel for purchasing gifts for the veterans.

The auxiliary will hold a bakeless bake sale Saturday. Poppy Day will be May 3, and the auxiliary is ordering poppies. The Last Man's Dinner will be held May 19 at the post hall, and the auxiliary will plan a menu as the event nears. The 2013 Christmas Committee includes Chair Brecht and Fabian. Pat Folden, Joan Spano and Marcy Spano will serve on the Nominating Committee.

Brecht closed the meeting, with Perrone leading the closing prayer. The next meeting will be March 18. Brecht and Folden will serve refreshments.
