Shiloh Apostolic Church hosts

special service Friday evening

WEIRTON - Shiloh Apostolic Church will host a special service, "Hung Up for Our Hang Ups" at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church located at 3000 Weir Ave.

The event will include exhortations, music and dramatic expression. Deacon William Watson of Zion Temple in Steubenville, Ohio; Elder Matthew Quivers of the Apostolic Lighthouse in Weirton; and the Rev. Carol Christian of Bethlehem Temple in Wheeling will be guest speakers. Brother Collin McGee will portray Peter. The public is invited to attend.

Sacred Heart announces services

WEIRTON - The Sacred Heart of Mary Church will celebrate Gorzkie Zale, or "Bitter Lamentations," a traditional Polish Lenten devotion dating back to the 1700s, at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church located at 200 Preston Ave.

The service incorporates Polish and English text, chant, reading and silent meditation on Jesus Christ's and Mary's suffering during the passion and crucifixion. The public is welcome to attend.

The church will celebrate "Around the Cross," a Lenten devotion in the ecumenical Taize tradition, at 7 p.m. March 22. The service incorporates scripture, chant, silent meditation and intercessory prayer. The Taize community was founded as a place where divided Christians and separated people could worship together in Taize, France, in 1940. All are invited to contemplate Christ's redemption.

The church will celebrate Tenebrae, or "Darkness Fell," a traditional monastic Holy Week devotion, at 8 p.m. March 27. The service is a meditation on the last seven phrases Christ spoke during the passion and his death. All are welcome to attend.

Elks to hold dinner

WEIRTON - The Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 Past Exalted Rulers will hold their monthly pasta dinner for members and guests from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the lodge located on Main Street.

The dinner includes salad, pasta, bread, butter, dessert and coffee or tea. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children age 10 and under. A ticket will be selected for a free dinner at next month's Pasta Sunday.

Gospel group to perform

HICKORY, Pa. - Local gospel group Backporch will perform at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church located at 210 Main St. There is no admission fee; a free will offering will be accepted. The public is invited to attend.

Churches holding Holy Week services

WEIRTON - Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Weirton will hold joint worship services at noon Monday through March 29 at Memorial Baptist located at 121 Ivy St.

The Holy Week services will last 30 minutes, and the Rev. Bill Stout and the Rev. Don Dague will speak. Special music is planned for each service.

The public is invited to attend.

Madonna holding open house

WEIRTON - Madonna High School will hold an open house with enrollment from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and March 21 at the high school.

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library's Crocheting Group will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The free group is for adults, from beginners to experts. Bring your own supplies and projects. If you need help, someone will be available to assist or instruct you. Call (304) 737-1551 to register.
