River's Edge Garden Club meets
Ginny Popson was the hostess for the Feb. 14 meeting of the River's Edge Garden Club held at Popson's home on Banfield Avenue.
Members brought several of their pressed flowers, and Popson provided various sized rocks, birdhouses, sun catchers and colored paper to use to make crafts with their pressed flowers.
Members also participated in a silent auction. A light dinner was prepared and served by Popson.
There were 10 members in attendance, and they answered roll call by telling what spring flowering bulbs they planted this year.
The minutes of the January meeting were read by Beth Cooper, secretary; and the financial report was given by Betty Stewart, treasurer.
Thank-you notes were received from Mary Sue Hodovanic and the Toronto Kiwanis Club.
Gail Saner passed around pictures she had taken at previous meetings.
Betty Stewart discussed what types of plants and shrubs members might be interested in planting in the pink garden at Newburg Landing. Popson thanked members for bringing canned goods and paper products for the Toronto His Hands Extended food pantry.
The next meeting will be held at the home of Mary Jane Ighnat, and the guest speaker will be announced.

A team of volunteers will help clients apply for low-cost or no-cost medications.
The free program has been providing assistance since 2002 at the Riverview United Methodist Church, 105 N. River Ave. Assistance is provided on the first Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. The entrance to the church is handicap accessible.
Those age 65 or older and who have no prescription insurance are eligible for the program.
This is not a distribution center for medications, but a volunteer-based program that assists in filling out paperwork and sending in necessary applications to drug manufacturers. Once approved, clients begin receiving medications directly from companies in six to eight weeks.
