BLOOMINGDALE - A state education consultant's visit to the school district was discussed during Tuesday's Jefferson County Joint Vocational School Board meeting.

A consultant from the Ohio Department of Education's Career Technical and Adult Education Program recently visited the school and told school district officials the district is on track, according to Dale Edwards, JVS superintendent.

"The consultant visited at the end of February," said Edwards, adding the consultant was impressed with the school and its academic record. "His comment was that he had no recommendations for improvements at the school. He said we were doing extremely well."

Also, Cecilia Abdalla, the district technology program and career technical assessment coordinator, delivered good news during the meeting.

"She let the board know JVS student testing met the work force development performance target," said Edwards, adding students must meet certain state and federal guidelines as a technical training high school.

"We've got students from Harrison Hills City School District applying to enroll at JVS, and we are accepting them," continued Edwards, adding the district's open enrollment to neighboring school districts will continue.

In other matters, the board:

Approved agreements with Eastern Gateway Community College and the University of Akron to allow JVS students to earn college credits through the attendance of classes there, said Edwards. He said JVS students could earn up to a semester's work of college credits through classes at the school.

Approved four-year contract extensions for educators Todd Phillipson and Anthony D'Aurora.

Learned students will begin pouring a concrete footer this week for the seventh house to be constructed in the Breezewood Manor subdivision, said Edwards.

The next board meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on April 16 at the school.
