Soil and water taking orders for stocking

WINTERSVILLE - Stephanie Vance, Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District public relations chairman, said the district is taking orders for its annual pond stocking fish sale. The fish will be purchased through Fender's Fish Hatchery in Baltic.

The species of fish available are largemouth bass, channel catfish, white amur, black crappie, shell cracker, yellow perch, blue gill and fathead minnows.

Orders will be taken until March 29. Pick up will be from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. only on April 4 at the new location at Bantam Ridge School, Suite A. For the pickup, a large container filled with pond water -5 to 10 gallons of water per 100 fish - is required. Containers should be lined with a new plastic bag before adding water.

The white amurs should be placed in a container with a lid large enough to tie at the top, officials said.
