WEIRTON - Plans are coming together for the 32nd-annual Weirton United Way Golf Classic, set to take place June 10 at Williams Country Club.
The tournament's planning committee met Thursday to continue discussion on the event, including the search for sponsors.
"Right now, we have two platinum sponsors and potentially a third," tournament chair John Kirlangitis said.
MAKING PLANS — The Weirton United Way is making plans for the annual Weirton United Way Golf Classic, set to take place June 10 at Williams Country Club. As part of the 32nd-annual event, committee members will be selling tickets for its Dream Sports Package Giveaway, which includes tickets for several college and professional sporting events. The United Way also is looking for sponsors for the golf tournament. Helping to organize the event are, from left, tournament chair John Kirlangitis; Brian James, general manager of ArcelorMittal-Weirton, who sold the winning sports package ticket in 2012; and United Way 2013 Campaign Chair Don Gianni Jr. -- Craig Howell
ArcelorMittal Steel and Cross IT Sales and Solutions have both returned as platinum sponsors for the golf event - the Weirton United Way's biggest fundraiser of the year.
Platinum sponsorships are available for $5,000, with gold sponsors at $2,700, and silver sponsorships at $1,700. There also are $500, $200 and $100 sponsorship levels available.
The committee also is selling tickets for its Dream Sports Package giveaway drawing, the winner of which will receive tickets for several college and professional sporting events.
The drawing is open to all area residents, with tickets at $20 each.
The Weirton United Way Golf Classic has raised more than $50,000 each of the last several years, but Kirlangitis said he wants to continue to push the bar higher and believes the committee involved in planning this year's event can do so.
"It is not hard to be successful," Kirlangitis said. "Our tournament has tradition, history, we play a great venue."
