WEIRTON - The finance committee is recommending City Council expand the city manager's purchasing powers.
At Thursday's meeting, committee members recommended increasing the dollar amount the city manager can spend for discretionary expenditures from $1,500 to $5,000 and changing the competitive bid benchmark from $5,000 to $10,000.
The committee also recommended renewing the city's participation in a cost share program for Harmon Creek watershed structures, as well as entering into a contract for a training program the city fire department is planning for November. No money will change hands until after the new fiscal budget takes effect, but approving the contract will reserve the training dates, officials said.
All three items are on the agenda for Monday's City Council meeting set for 7:30 p.m. in council chambers.
