Burgettstown Library searching for a 'Good Egg'

From staff reports , Weirton Daily Times

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - The Burgettstown Community Library is looking for its next "Good Egg."

The Stunda Good Egg Award, established in 1980 by Friends of the Library, recognizes a resident who has done something to improve the quality of life in the community and surrounding area.

Residents 18 years old or older can nominate a Good Egg by obtaining a nomination form at the library. The presentation will be held May 15.

The name of the "Good Egg" is placed on a plaque in the library, and the recipient is presented with an award, which was originally a ceramic egg made by Barbara Stunda, a ceramist who participated in library fairs.

In 1985, the award became the Stunda Good Egg Memorial because of the deaths of John and Barbara Stunda. The family established a memorial for them with the library, and in addition to the plaque and the ceramic plate, the Stunda family makes a monetary donation to the library honoring the Good Egg recipient. The ceramic egg, originally made by Barbara Stunda, continued as the award for several years and was made by Ethel Cundiff, Barbara Stunda's mother. It is now a ceramic plate.
