WEIRTON - The Hancock County Animal Shelter Foundation will hold its first-ever 5K Run/Walk for the Animals, and is inviting area residents and their canine friends to participate.
The 5K is scheduled for April 27, beginning at 9 a.m. on the Panhandle Trail, and will serve as a fundraiser to provide shelter, food and medical care for the animal shelter.
Beginning at the trail head, participants will run or walk 1.55 miles inward before doubling back to the starting point. The race will be timed by Runner's High.
Registration is $20, with participants receiving a shirt and goody bag. The top three finishers in several age groups will receive medals, and there also will be door prizes available.
Children 10 and under walk for free with a registered adult, and leashed dogs who are up to date on shots are also welcome, according to organizers.
