To the Editor,
The City of Weirton has proclaimed Friday, May 3, 2013 as The American Legion Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary Buddy Poppy Day.
Our volunteers will be stationed around the city at local businesses collecting donations in exchange for a poppy assembled by disabled veterans.
Each year more than 25 million poppies are distributed across the United States. One hundred percent of donations received by the Auxiliary and Legion volunteers are used exclusively to assist and support veterans and their families.
These include disabled, hospitalized, those in care facilities, and others. This event pays tribute to those veterans who gave their lives and the millions who proudly served our country.
We, the members of Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary, are hopeful that the citizens and businesses of our city will stand and support this important program, as you have so willingly in the past.
Wear the poppy in remembrance of our veterans.
