Free dinner at Sugar Grove UMC

The Sugar Grove United Methodist Church will be hosting a free community dinner on April 27 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The menu will include turkey and all the trimmings.

Participants must RSVP by April 24 by calling (740) 544-5037 or (740) 537-3565. The first 100 people to call will be served.

The church is located at 159 county Road 68, Toronto. The Rev. Robert Welch is its pastor.

JUHS Class of 1958 planning reunion

The Jefferson Union High School, Class of 1958, will hold a 55-year reunion organizational meeting on April 29 beginning at noon in the community room of the Eat'n Park Restaurant on Mall Drive, Steubenville.

All class members are welcome.

Wellsburg Civic League to meet

The next monthly meeting of the Wellsburg Civic League will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the River Room of the Brooke County Library.

Jeannie and Norm Schwertfeger will give a presentation on their recent trip to Africa.

At the last meeting, a Brooke senior's name was drawn to receive a $500 scholarship, and the recipient will be notified during the awards presentation at the high school. A donation was made to the Wellsburg museum for displays, and several women donated their time to help with the move from its old location.

Dinner Saturday at Weirton church

St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Weirton, is organizing a meatloaf dinner on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The menu will include meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, green beans, bread and butter. Cost is $ 8 for adults and $ 4 for children age 12 and under. Takeout will be available.

Funseekers plan annual picnic

The Funseekers held their monthly dinner meeting at the YWCA in Steubenville with musical entertainment provided by David Hunt and Rich Grimm.

Entertainment for next month will be the Donohues.

The group's annual picnic will be held July 21 at Mingo's Arcoma Park. A committee will be organized to recommend nominations for officers to be elected by September.

Patricia Marshall won the dinner award. Door prizes were won by Mary Beth Bauer, Tony LaRosa, Joyce Dobbs, Regina Truax, Margaret Harbert, Bea Gundrum, Boyd Barker and Joan Villa.

Mingo Knights dinner on May 3

The Mingo Knights of Columbus Monsignor Joseph F. Dooley Council 4361 will hold its 56th anniversary past grand knights and awards dinner on May 3 at the Mingo Knights of Columbus banquet hall, 117 Legion Drive, Mingo Junction.

The event will include the presentation of awards for the Lady, Youth, Knight, Chaplain, Blue Coat, Family and Volunteer of the Year. Also to be honored are past grand knights and monthly knights. There will be a 50-50 drawing, too.

The event is open to the public.

The menu will include stuffed chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes with gravy, spaghetti, salad and cake.

Cost of the dinner is $18 per person. The deadline for reservations is April 29 and can be made by calling the hall at (740) 535-8037 or Shawn Zarych, grand knight, at (740) 381-1385 or by e-mail Shawn at SEZ1963@comcast.net.

Correction on scholarship winner

Taylor Clark, daughter of Jeff and Cynthia Clark, is one of the recipients of a $1,000 Edmondo Stabene Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Italian American Cultural Club. She will graduate from Catholic Central High School and attend Florida State University.

Attention, Wintersville Class of 1964

The Wintersville High School Class of 1964 planning committee will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zalenski's Restaurant in Wintersville to begin planning for the 50-year class reunion. All class members are invited to attend.
