Ready for some football

April 25, 2013
Weirton Daily Times
Members of the Brooke County, Weirton and Wheeling lodges of the Fraternal Order of Police will play Brooke County and Weirton firefighters in a football game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Brooke Memorial Stadium to benefit Brooke County Special Olympics. Among area law enforcement officers participating are, front, from left, Larry Palmer, coach; and Michael Hoder, Dennis Davis, Shaun Flanegin and R.J. Faldowski: and back, Bobby McConnell, Josh Sanders, Chad Simpson and Dale and Vern Ridgway. It’s the sixth year for the game, which has raised $6,750 for Brooke County Special Olympics over the last two years and $9,515 for Easter Seals in its first three years. It has been renamed the Bill Furioli Memorial Football Classic in honor of the late Brooke County Special Olympics director who died Jan. 23 after leading the program for 26 years. Admission is $5, with children age 10 and under admitted free. There will be a $2 parking fee and concession stand run by volunteers with Special Olympics. -- Warren Scott
