Spring Avenue house hit with gunshot

STEUBENVILLE - City Police officers responding to a report of shots fired at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday found a bullet hole in a second floor window of a house in the 400 block of Spring Avenue.

Officers reported finding no spent shell casings near the home. Two females in a red car are considered suspects, police reported.

Man sentenced in child sex case

STEUBENVILLE -Robert P. Keenan, 31, of 174 township Road 691, Richmond, was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. after pleading guilty to two counts of gross sexual imposition.

Keenan was charged with sexual contact with an 11-year-old girl in January and March.

Bruzzese ruled Keenan is a Tier II sex offender, requiring him to report his address to the county sheriff where he works or lives every 180 days for 25 years.

Board of elections to test equipment

STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Board of Elections will conduct a public test at 10 a.m. Friday of tabulation equipment for Tuesday's primary election at the board office, 117 N. Third St.

In-person absentee voting will end at 4:30 p.m. Monday. The board office will be open from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday for in-person voting.

Boil order lifted by Hammond PSD

WELLSBURG - A boil order issued for Hammond Public Service District customers on Chapman Heights and state Route 67 has been lifted. The order was issued last week after an electrical panel at the district's water treatment plant failed. Hammond Superintendent Bob Sadler said temporary repairs have been made until the panel can be replaced.

Wall of Fame nominees sought

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Schools Wall of Fame committee is entering the 11th year in its quest to recognize past employees for distinguished service to Brooke County schools.

Honorees will be recognized at a ceremony by the Brooke County Board of Education and their names will be added to the Wall of Fame plaque.

Nomination forms are available at the Brooke County Board of Education Office, all Brooke County schools, bus garage and the Wellsburg, Follansbee and Weirton libraries.

Anyone with knowledge of a deserving individual may make a nomination. Prior nominations are eligible. Criteria for nominations are any past or retired Brooke County schools employee, both service and professional personnel and living or dead, with a minimum of 20 years of service. Nominations should be submitted no later than May 17.

Marland Heights association to meet

WEIRTON - The Marland Heights Community Association will hold an informational meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday in the big shelter at Marland Heights Pool and Park for those interested in the "Save the Pool" project.

Progress on the project and upcoming events will be discussed, including a May 25 jazz concert and wine tasting at the park beginning at 6 p.m. The concert will feature Erin Burkett, jazz vocalist and Broadway star, who will perform with her band. Tickets are $20 and cover both events.

The first "Pool Together" 5K Run and Walk will begin at 10 a.m. on June 15. Walkers may bring their dogs. Children's activities will follow the race. For information go to the Marland Heights Pool Facebook site.
