'Hawks' reunion being planned

Plans are under way for a reunion of the St. Anthony "Hawks."

A get-together is scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 16-18 at the Spot Bar in Steubenville.

A memorabilia auction and a golf outing are being discussed.

Committee members are being asked to contact Joe DiAlbert at (740) 283-9164; Bernie Ravasio at (740) 317-5656; or Rocco Augustine at (740) 264-1975.

All former "Hawks" are welcomed to be a part of the planning committee.

Annual inspection

For OES Chapter

LaBelle Chapter 414, Order of the Eastern Star, held its 94th-annual inspection with Sandy Moxley, worthy matron, and Ben Moxley, worthy patron, presiding.

Inspecting officer was Machelle Miller, deputy grand matron.

Guests included Lawrence Cullifer, past grand patron of West Virginia; Pat Smith, grand representative of Utah; and worthy matrons and patrons from Arbutus, Bolivar, New Philadelphia, Oriental, Unionport, District 13, Carroll and Crystal.

LaBelle Chapter past matrons and past patrons attending were Roberta Gilday, Carol Michael, Clara McClure, Suzanne Enochs, Lou Anne Craven, Carolyn Bickerstaff, Arlene Sue Davis, Sara Joe Peeler, Eileen Alloggia, Arthur Michael, Randall Craven and Howard McClure, also ambassador for District 14.

Also attending were six honored masons; 10 50-year members; officers of the District 14, Paul Moore, secretary, Cathy Barcus, treasurer; District 13, vice president, Karen Jones; grand aide to District 14 deputy grand matron, Jed Miller; grand page to District 13 deputy grand matron, Ingrid Henthorn; and several past grand appointments.

Page was Anne Graham.

Initiation was performed for candidates Lauren Callahan and Amelia Brooks.

Art Beal band at

Country Friends

Country Friends will host Art Beal and the Country Tradition Band on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 402 Old Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

Country Friends has events each Monday, Friday and Saturday at the hall. The doors open at 6 p.m. each Saturday, and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

On Monday and Friday nights, the doors open at 4 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. Participants can bring a covered dish if they desire for the meal that begins at 5 p.m.

Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity.

Kiwanis announce

Speakers for May

The Steubenville Kiwanis Club welcomed Judy Raveaux of CHANGE Inc. in Weirton to its Tuesday luncheon meeting held at the YWCA. Raveaux previewed plans for an additional office to open in Wintersville

Other speakers lined up for the May noon meetings, according to Mike Emmerling, program chair, are:

-- May 14: Daniel Pinciaro, counseling, mental health consultation and mental wellness education.

-- May 21: Alex Marshall, publisher of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times.

-- May 28: State Sen. Lou Gentile, D-Steubenville.

The Kiwanis spent several April meetings as the guests of their sponsored Key Clubs at Steubenville, Indian Creek and Catholic Central high schools.

The club is planning its annual golf scramble, organizing and accepting teams for the June 9 fundraiser. Brian Scarpone is the event chair.
