Public hearings set for Mingo Junction

MINGO JUNCTION - Two public hearings have been scheduled concerning the electric aggregation program approved by voters in Tuesday's primary election.

John Ney, an energy consultant with World Energy, said the public hearings are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday and 7 p.m. on May 22. Both meetings will be held in the basement of the Municipal Building.

Residents are automatically enrolled in the electric aggregation program unless they opt out, Ney said.

After the public hearings, Ney will begin negotiating a rate for electricity for residents and small businesses and the length of a contract. Village Council will have the final say on the agreement.

Residents can expect to see the lower rate in about 60 to 90 days, he said.

AEP will continue to be responsible for the delivery of power to homes and businesses, and will continue to read meters, maintain poles and wires and restore power after an outage, Ney said. The negotiated electric price will be on the AEP bill.
