Children's Book Week under way

Children's Book Week is being celebrated at the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County today through Sunday.

Established in 1919, Children's Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, commemorative events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes - wherever young readers and books connect.

Patrons can stop in at any library branch for a chance to win a prize, according to Jennifer Cesta, the library's public relations coordinator.

WHS Class of 1964 plans reunion

The Wintersville High School Class of 1964 reunion committee met April 24 to begin planning its 50-year reunion.

Attending were Sandy Sommers Reducha, Signa Carrocci Findlay, Kathy Pyles Furda, Sandy Dameron Wilson, Jerry Boyd, Sherilyn Boughers Townsend and Lola Dornbusch Swanagan.

The reunion will be held Aug. 16, 2014, at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.

The next planning meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Zalenski's in Wintersville. All class members are welcome to attend.

Winners in open pairs play May 3 were:

Bill Hope, first; Shirley Roush, second; Donna Hill, third; and Mary Alice Brandt, Claryne Berman and David Hope, tie for fourth.

Winners in open pairs play on April 26 were: Carl Hamill and Mary Alice Brandt, first; and Dianne Slater and James Slater, second.

Ohio Valley Duplicate Bridge

Winners in open pairs play April 30 were: Bessie Chijner, first, and Dianne Slater and David Hope, tie for second.

BV neighborhood plans sale

Although the Buena Vista Residents Group has disbanded, one popular event of the organization remains.

The Buena Vista neighborhood will hold its annual garage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 18.
