NEW CUMBERLAND - Dr. Stephen Alatis, Weirton Medical Center orthopedic and sports medicine physician, was the guest speaker at the Point Pleasant Ladies Aide's May meeting.

Janice Hurley, also of the medical center, introduced Alatis. He focused on joint replacement and arthritis and pointed out different methods of treatment: medication, scope, pain relief and elective procedures. A question-and-answer session followed his presentation.

Louanne Huff offered prayer before the meal.

President Carolyn Allison called the business meeting to order, and the memory candle was lit to remember those members not able to attend the meeting.

Marla Simmons was welcomed as a guest.

Louanne Huff led the devotions and she read "Bloom Where You're Planted," followed by prayer.

Mick Goffoli read the minutes of the April meeting, and Kathleen McDonald gave the financial report. Members donated to the Sunshine Fund.

The 2013 recipient of the Ladies Aide Scholarship has been selected. Allison and Patty Bruce will present the scholarship at the Oak Glen High School awards program May 23.

Members were reminded to bring their baked goods to the church for the bake sale June 8. This will be in conjunction with the Point Pleasant Church's yard sale.

It was decided to sponsor a child to attend the Energy Express program this summer. The Gabriel House in New Cumberland also will receive a donation.

The group will participate in the Hancock County Old Time Fair and the New Cumberland Riverfest in September. The theme baskets will be a food basket and a sports basket.

Members shared prayer requests, praises, and blessings and joined in reciting a prayer to close the meeting.

Nancy Conkle, Betty Glenn, and Lisa Subrick were hostesses.

The next meeting will be a covered-dish picnic at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at Karen Randolph's home.
